ONEPLUS ANDROID software updates extend to 3 years for some phones

Oneplus revealed today that they would expand their software updates and support systems for new devices and old devices back to Oneplus 8. To realize this, Oneplus “works on integrating the base of the oxygeno and coloros code.” According to the Oneplus Oxygenos Gary Chen product, this is a change that might not be noticed by users on their cellphones – meaning that there will be no big change to UI software, for now.

“This is a change that you might not notice because it happens behind the scenes,” Chen said. “We now have a bigger and even more capable developer team, more sophisticated R & D resources, and more efficient development processes all come together to improve the experience of Oxygenos.”

Chen also suggested that the company decide that they would “take advantage of our shared resources with Oppo” by integrating the base code of oxygeno and coloros. This will, said Chen, “increases efficiency and releases the experience of software in our portfolio.”

The next big change in the software, with a “more stable and stronger” platform will occur in one OTA update that will also provide Android 12. The device released in the future will have a newly integrated platform outside this box.

Oneplus is committed to 3 main android updates and 4 years security updates for all oneplus devices, including T and R series, returning to Oneplus 8. Oneplus is committed to 2 main Android updates and 3 years of security updates for the first Nord Nord phone and newer Nord / Nord CE devices. The Nord N series, starting with Nord N10 and N100, will get 1 main Android update and 3 years of security updates.

All oneplus devices released before the Oneplus 8 series will remain part of the guaranteed system “2 main Android and 3 years of security updates”. Oneplus also suggests that certain devices may not follow along with the package in this case if they are “carrier versions.” Per Chen, “The software update plan for the operator version will follow our operator’s partner requirements.”
