Google commits to supporting Nest smart home devices for 5 years
Google’s latest blog post finally provides a minimum public support timeline for all smart home products “Google Nest”. The company has been committed to supporting all Google nest products with “critical bug fixes and patches” for at least five years.
Inconsistent branding means it is difficult to tame Google’s definition of “Google Nest” products, but the company now has a support page that helps each model included. Today’s announcement applies to audio speakers, nest hub smart displays, thest thermostat, nest protect smoke detectors, nest cameras, wi-fi nests, secure secure alarm system, nest x yale, and less clear devices like google home home smart speaker ( Replaced by audio nest), Google Wi-Fi (replaced with Wi-Fi), and the whole chromecast line, including a new Google TV dongle.
All of these old products can continue to transport by running similar software still maintained for current products, but special concerns are a safe nest, Google’s home security system and the only Google. Products take place from 2017 to 2020, and with its termination, Google has left the home security market. Google now does not have commercial reasons to continue to develop software, and the company says not to expect new features that will advance. With today’s announcement, we now know that a safe nest will continue to work and get security updates until at least November 2022. This product depends on Google Cloud to work, so I won’t put money for it last than that.
Anything on this list can last more than five years, but some important products will reach the end of their support for their support immediately. Google Smart Home Smart Wearser, which was launched in 2016, will reach the end of his time in November this year, while mini homes and max houses stopped can be closed at the beginning of next year. Stupid speakers can last for decades, so hopefully these products will be better than minimum support.
Many nest products are more than this five-year support window and still function. Many of the nest thermostats are very old, and while Google support pages say the last software update for most models released in 2019, even the 2011 model is still functioning. Nest protects, smoke detectors, has dates of self-destruction that is difficult to programmable into them-seven years for the first model, released in 2013, and 10 years for the second genital model released in 2015. This seems to be something UL (guarantor laboratory) certification of all demands Carbon monoxide alarm.
Five years of support is quite medium for Google. At present, the Android Pixel mobile phone is supported for three years (which is not even at the top of the Android Market again), while Chromebooks get an update for eight years.
