YouTube TV launches 4K support and offline playback for an extra $20
YouTube TV adds 4K support and offline playback, but it will cost you. Google details the “4K” YouTube TV subscription add-on, which requires an additional $ 20 above the $ 65 per month, with a total of $ 85 per month. 4K plus may sound like it will only provide a resolution of lumps, but subscribing to a higher level will also unlock the new offline playback feature and simultaneous streaming without limits at Wi-Fi’s house. This last feature is limited to three streams per account. The only feature without the cost of today’s announcement is 5.1 audio support, which slid into all YouTube TV members.
Youtube TV is a pay per month service only Google which is intended to replace cable TV subscriptions. For a basic price of $ 65 a month, you get access to the main cable TV channel bundles, such as ESPN, CNN, MTV, Cartoon Network, Discovery, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, TBS, TNT, USA, and more. The main TV network-CBS, ABC, NBC, and Fox-all included. In addition to paying extra for 4K, you can also use other premium add-ons such as cable TV channels such as HBO, Stars, Showtime, and Cinemax. Sports packages, including the NFL red zone, are also available. Just like cables, youtube TV is quite expensive and continues to be more expensive. Google only raised the price to $ 65 years ago.
Even if you pay an additional $ 20, it looks like 4K content will be hard to come by. Google says that “4K playback is available on select live and on-demand content from this network: Discovery, ESPN, Fox Sports, FX, NAT Geo, NBC Sports, and Tastemade.” Lack of 4K content is not a YouTube TV error. While internet streaming services such as Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube are all on the 4k content train for some time, cable TV networks still mainly produce content at 720p or 1080p. YouTube TV is basically a cable, and no 4K content is available.
Those AV1 disputes actually do matter
Google’s support page says that the 4K screening will require an internet connection that is at least 15Mbps. Most smart devices that are capable of 4K it seems compatible, but Google calls the Apple TV TV and Playstation 4 4k as having IFFY 4K support, by saying these two devices are only compatible with “select content” and “some programs may have a lower resolution.” It looks like this is a Video Av1 codec problem. AV1 is the next large video codec that needs to be supported by the device, and offers better image quality in lower bitrate, without royalty fees. Google is a large booster codec, attitude that has caused disputes over support for Roku devices. Apple TV and PS4 Pro both do not support AV1, so that it sounds like this support record only shows that the device will not be able to play exclusive 4K AV1 content.
Offline playback might be the most interesting of the two new YouTube TV features. The offline feature will allow you to download DVR recording if you are looking for more than $ 85 per month for Youtube TV with a 4k plus package. The only downside is that offline playback requires a YouTube TV application, so it means it works on cellphones and Chromebooks but is not on anything that usually uses a browser, such as Windows, Mac, or Linux.
To try to make users stay connected with an additional additional $ 20, YouTube offers a price of $ 10 per month extra for the package for the first year. After 12 months, the price will jump.
